POLICY FOR DRIVERS,

POLICY FOR LONDON

  The poison of public policy

Abuses like these are just the tip of the iceberg.

ROADS POLICY SHOULD RESPECT THE FOLLOWING PRINCIPLES

·        Facilitating liberty, not restricting it

·        Facilitating the economy and productivity of individuals ..... so traffic management policies should aim to make the traffic flow and measures that jam it up should be discouraged

·        The primary purpose of the road should be to maximise the throughput of vehicle traffic and passengers

·        Pedestrians belong on the pavement. Dividing up the roads to create exclusive space for a minority of users is both unfair and inefficient

·        Where traffic has negative features such as noise and pollution, policy objectives should be focused on encouraging new technologies to overcome any negatives not on reducing the traffic because doing the latter also removes the benefits

·        Developing policies and sanctions should be based on evidence not dogma

·        Prematurely scrapping perfectly good ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles is not environmentally friendly.

A STARTER FOR TEN

A fair deal for Britain’s drivers, who are taxed many times over for using the road. Morally, roads investment has been paid for several times in advance, but our taxes have been wasted on anti-motorist schemes that hamper us and can impact other road users.

Respect instead of being used as cash cows. No to political correctness or junk science being used as an excuse for increased parking charges and other driver taxes. No national or local tolls (such as ULEZ), road pricing schemes or workplace parking levies (‘a tax on going to work’).

An end to measures blatantly designed to take away road space such as Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs), under-used bus and cycle lanes. Apart from ruining the look of an area, they cause congestion and force people to driver further, burning more fuel.

Removal of vehicle-damaging road humps. Repairing potholes promptly - and properly.

Local authorities should be required to provide parking to satisfy demand either free or at reasonable cost. They must factor in the needs of businesses which depend upon road use and agree enforcement practices

Realistic speed limits not depressed ones that increase driver frustration, reduce concentration and road safety.

Proper road user safety education for all, enabling us to share the roads in harmony and with equal responsibility. Respect for drivers rather than regarding us as 2nd-class citizens.

Firm action against those who deliberately block our roads, not setting them free to

re-offend. Criminal conspiracy charges.

Recognise that London’s outdoor air is typically some of the cleanest in the world, and it can be cleaner than air inside the home or on the London Underground. If London’s air at street level is as toxic/filthy as Mayor Khan moans, why is he always encouraging people to walk or cycle in it?

Scrap the irrational internal combustion engine (ICE) ban. Whether to buy an Electric Vehicle (EV) should be an unpressured decision for consumers. The government should end arbitrary targets that put pressure on vendors and could jeopardise our manufacturing industry.

Other enlightened policy suggestions available on request.

Please help spread the word and - better still - actively support us in calling

for a fairer deal for drivers who already pay billions a year in taxes.
