‘STOP LONDON-WIDE

ROAD PRICING BY STEALTH’

.

Don’t let the Mayor tax you off the road

Different language is sometimes used - ‘road pricing’, ‘pay per mile’, ‘road user charging’ and ‘road tolling’ all basically mean charging you to make a journey.

DELIBERATELY UNDER-PUBLICISED? …

The under-publicised consultation on expanding ULEZ (2022) had questions on what sort of road pricing might be introduced. 83% of responses were opposed.

Officially ‘no decision has been made’, so why has Transport for London (TfL) recruited several contractors working on developing road pricing systems?

We are told that ‘the technology isn’t ready yet’…. should we read that the Mayor is hoping to tread softly until he can get re-elected in 2024?

People have also noticed the hurry to get in ANPR surveillance cameras for London-wide ULEZ despite its great unpopularity. The cameras might just double up for road pricing?

FROM ULEZ TO LONDON-WIDE ROAD PRICING? …

·        An under-publicised document reveals the assumption that ULEZ income will be replaced by road pricing (road user charging) income by 2026… as part of his plans to save the planet.

·        He claimed that about ULEZ, even though his own document gives the game away that it will have no effect!  It is quite clearly about making money!

TAKING YOU, YOUR MONEY AND PRIVACY FOR GRANTED…

TAXING OVER 1 IN 4 JOURNEYS OFF THE ROAD?

·        The planet-saving Mayor wants to get 27% of our car journeys off the road. It makes you wonder how steep the charges will be?

·        He waffles on about supporting those on low incomes over the costs. Yet there’s lots of evidence that his ULEZ expansion would seriously harm many poorer and lower-paid people.

·        There is a hint that charges could be based on ‘household income’, ‘where you drive’ and ‘available alternatives such as walking and cycling’.

·        They have the nerve to pretend that this would ‘’respect privacy’ and minimise our personal data collected. Who decides if your journey to work or the shops is the best option or even ‘necessary’? Or whether you should be having a delivery by Ocado or Amazon?

·        Apart from being irrational and irrelevant to road use – targeting income could compromise privacy within a family.

·        We are talking about a ‘Big Brother’ mentality, a bureaucracy getting too big for its jackboots!

ADDING INSULT TO INJURY … KHAN’S HYPOCRISY

·        The planet-saving Mayor is a hypocrite.

·        While wanting to tax our ‘emissions’, he regularly lets off lavish fireworks displays when it suits him.

·        He and his advisers have frequently flown.

·        He has been enthusiastic about visiting cannabis farms in California, which would hardly be great for air quality if replicated over here.

·        He has tried to push more people to use the tube for money reasons, even though the air quality is better at street level. He waffles on about supporting those on low incomes over the costs. Yet there’s lots of evidence that his ULEZ expansion would seriously harm many poorer and lower-paid people.
